Dear Saints of Trinity,
We’re moving toward reopening. We’ve been approved to allow 25 people in the church at any given time. We’re going to begin to be open for worship during Holy Week. Our Maundy Thursday Service will be open to 25 people. Our Good Friday Service will be open to 25 people. Easter Sunday we will be holding two services. The first service will be held at 9 am and the second at 11 am. Easter Sunday we will be allowing 50 people in each service. Half will be in the sanctuary and the other half will be in the fellowship hall. The fellowship hall can be completely sealed off from the sanctuary which allows us to count it as a separate facility. The service will be on screens rather than live, but it will be in the church. What we’re asking is that each service consists of neighborhood groups who come together to whatever service you’re assigned to attend. Each service will be deeply meaningful. In other words, one or two neighborhood groups come on Maundy Thursday. A different set of neighborhood groups attend on Good Friday, and then five or six different neighborhood groups attend on Easter Sunday. All of the services will be taped and available online later in the Easter season. We wish we could live-stream them, but we simply don’t have the capacity to do that. Now, with that in mind, here are the protocols that will be in place.
Anyone attending in-person worship will need to have had both vaccination shots, and then have gone through the two-week waiting period after the second shot. There will be a process for reservations either online or through your neighborhood leader. The sanctuary will be divided into four distinct areas and the reservations will identify which area of the sanctuary you’ll be assigned. For Easter Sunday, the fellowship hall will also be divided into four distinct areas and assignments given at the time of reservations. There will be sign-in sheets at each entrance. If coming to the sanctuary the entrance will be the main entrance with the possibility of at least one other entrance on the east side of the building. The fellowship hall will also have two entrances, one on the west side, and one on the east side. There will be parking assignments for each entrance. Each entrance will be well marked, and will have a greeter. The greeter will be taking temperatures. Sanitizing will be required at each entrance. Masks will be required and are to remain on throughout the time in the facility. Ushers will be available to guide those coming into their assigned areas. There will be a minimum of six feet between people or “bubble” groups. Once worship is concluded, people will be dismissed by sections so that there are not too many gathering together too closely at any given time. At this point, there will be no coffee hour, at least not yet.
As I write this, I see how it must feel. But friends, our primary goal is to get folks back into the building, into worship, but to do it safely. Maybe we’re being overly cautious but let’s remember that some of the most significant super-spreaders of the virus have been traced to churches that have not followed protocols. I don’t want to be one of those. We’re so close to being able to move to 25%. I don’t want to do anything that will prevent us from moving to that next step. In addition, we’re not providing parking lot worship. We just don’t have the capacity to do both inside and outside worship. On Easter Sunday, there will be a drive-through flower cross. In other words, the flower cross will be outside, probably in the round-about, where, with social distancing, you can come and place flowers in the cross. For those who may not have access to flowers, but would still like to be a part of that, we will have buckets of flowers available. We simply ask that each car, each group or person, honor the six-foot social distancing, sanitize before and after placing the flowers, and then allow the next car to move into place. In other words, please don’t linger too long. I have a feeling there will be a whole lot of folks who will want to add flowers to the cross.
So, this is the first step in reopening. I think all of those who have been involved in these decisions are asking for patience, grace, and intentionality around coming on assigned days, following the directions, staying and keeping others safe, and allowing us to move toward the next step. As we move toward this next phase, please remember to practice those Beatitudes. They are a vital part of our spiritual lives. They keep us spiritually healthy, and spiritually alive. I can’t begin to thank the Ad Council for their work on this reopening process. I wish you could have watched as they struggled, communicated, disagreed, and ultimately agreed to what I’ve listed above. This whole process weighs on them heavily, and each knows it does the same to you. Friends, we’re getting there, but we will continue to hold your safety as our highest priority. Finally, the Beatitude for this week is “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God.” Our role is to provide each other, this community and the world a peace that passes understanding. The only way to do that is to practice it, seek it, and then live it out every day. I’m praying for you. We’re praying for you.

- For those who continue to go through physical struggles, those who are dealing with cancer, or other health situations. Prayers for those who are emotionally feeling lost and alone.
- For all those who are ill from the covid-19 virus; for those families who have lost loved ones to the virus; for all the first responders/essential workers; and for those who are nervous about getting shots.
- For peace in our country.
- For smooth delivery of the vaccine. And please pray for all of the volunteers.
- For Katherine Parker, missionary to Nepal.

Easter Drive-through Dessert
Sunday, April 4 is Easter! As a thank you gift to our congregation, a small group of church ladies is planning to bake an Easter dessert to be distributed via a “drive-through” on Easter Sunday. Each household can choose either a small loaf of Chocolate Zucchini Bread or a small loaf of Lemon Poppy Seed Bread.

Trustees/Trinity TLC Gathering
The Trustees invite you to serve in a very tangible way, a bi-weekly gathering called Trinity TLC to accomplish light maintenance around the Church while sharing in fellowship. We meet every two weeks on Friday at 9:30 AM for a couple of hours of cutting grass, doing small maintenance chores, and a host of small jobs that together make a big difference … providing TLC to our building and grounds. Once permitted we will offer coffee and light eats to make this a social time as well, providing TLC to ourselves! The inaugural Trinity TLC will be Friday, March 19, at 9:30 AM. All are welcome!
Save the date for a Bible study
“Renewed: Finding Hope When You Don’t Like Your Story” by Heather M. Dixon. This class will meet in-person on Mondays at 3 p.m. and Zoom on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:00 p.m. for 4 weeks starting April 6 and ending April 27, 2021.
In this four-week Bible study, we’ll explore the life of Naomi as told in the Book of Ruth. We will learn to flourish as we live out our hard stories and trust that God can transform them. We’ll trade our heartache for delight as we discover a God who rescues and redeems. Sequim Food Distribution
As food needs continue to increase, the food distributions continue at least through March. The dates for this month are: March 10 and 24. Access to the Church during the COVID-19 Vaccinations
Blake Ave is now open, but as you approach the church, you will be stopped by a Volunteer Police person. Simply let them know you are trying to get to the church for a meeting, they will wave you on by. Turn into the north entrance, drive by the skate park, and then go around the back of the church building. There will be parking available. This is on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays before 9 am and until 2 pm.
COVID19 Vaccinations for Sequim area residents. Those now eligible are:
- Teachers and other school and childcare staff. A new online registration question will ask whether you work for a school, a school district, or a childcare center. Please bring your School ID with you to the vaccination event. (Any age over 18 years old.)
- Essential workers – including agriculture, food processing, grocery stores, food banks, public transit, corrections, and courts. (Any age over 18 years old.)
- Those 65 or older and their spouse or domestic partner in the car – may be younger and can be registered at the same time.
- Those 50+ and living in a multi-generational household.
Registration will be in one-hour time blocks between 8 am and 1 p.m. each day. Once online registration is complete, a ticket with the date and time should be printed and brought with you. Each person/couple in a vehicle must have a registration ticket.
This is a drive-through process. People stay in their cars. Check-in is here at TUMC in the parking lot. After completing the paperwork, people are directed to Carrie Blake Park where they will receive their vaccination. Please note that when TUMC opens for on-site worship it will be a requirement to have your two vaccinations and be past the two weeks following your second vaccination.

Peninsula Singers Virtual Cabaret
— is still up for viewing. Because of COVID-19, the choir cannot meet to sing or perform, and we need some basic donations in order to keep alive until the restrictions are lifted, and people are allowed to sing and perform again, as well as award some scholarships. The show is hosted by Jerry Wright and runs for just under 45 minutes. United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
— “is in prayer for the many U.S. states that are experiencing the dangerous and deadly effects of a string of winter storms. For those enduring widespread blackouts in sub-freezing temperatures, the touching down of multiple tornadoes, and decreased water supply, we offer prayers for safety and protection. Emergency personnel are leading ongoing rescue and relief efforts. UMC churches are actively being used as warming shelters and community members are being relocated as needed. UMCOR is actively connecting with Conference Disaster Response Coordinators in the affected areas and is ready to respond once the situation evolves.” If you would like to support the work of the Disaster Relief Fund in the U.S., you are invited to write a check to Trinity UMC, indicating Advance # 901670 in the memo section.
Trinity United Methodist Church office hours are 9 am-2 pm Monday through Friday. However, due to limited access to the building during this phase of opening, we are keeping the doors locked. There is a doorbell to the right of the main door (by the office) that you need to ring to alert the office and you will be let in. It is best to call ahead so we are aware that you are coming.
