Noisy Can Offering

The August 29, 2021, Noisy Can Offering will go toward a Sequim Education Foundation grant — Accelerated Reader online reading for 100 fourth grade students. This is a subscription service for students to access books at their instructional level online. It offers the books as well as questions and activities to assist with comprehension. Missions has allocated $500.00, which will purchase licenses for 25 students. The NCO will allow purchasing additional licenses. The amount to fully fund licenses for 100 children is $1,995.00. Should you choose to make a donation, please make a check payable to Sequim TUMC, indicating in the memo section: August NCO. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Education Committee Introductory Meeting

Have you considered joining the Education Committee’s team? Would you like to learn more about it first?

Come and meet with us at 11:15 am, after church, in the fellowship hall, on Sunday, September 5th. We will begin to discuss our mission, directions, and ideas together and you can decide if you are interested. We will also determine our meeting times and frequency.

At this time our committee will foster our Adult Education. This already encompasses Trinity U and the various courses offered to foster spiritual and personal growth, biblical understanding, and other needs in our church and community.

TUMC’s mission statement is WELCOME, GROW, EMPOWER, SERVE

As the Education Team, we have work to do to promote the growth of people in our church and community. This is a key part of our Church’s Mission Statement. We need to be Empowered by developing ourselves as people of faith. This makes us better at Welcoming and Serving.

If you have questions, please contact Melody Romeo at melodycoach@olypen.com or call her cellphone: 360 461 5595.

Help for Haiti

United Methodists are working with longtime partners in Haiti to respond after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake and as a major storm approaches. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is collecting donations and working on next steps to help the impoverished country, which also faces political unrest, gang violence, and COVID-19.

United Methodists are reaching out with their prayers and pocketbooks. You may go online to make a donation or write a check to Trinity United Methodist Church and write International Disaster Response and Recovery Advance #982450 on the memo line. The relief arm, part of the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries, also is in conversation with partners on the ground about next steps. “In the aftermath of Saturday’s earthquake, we grieve alongside the people of Haiti as the staggering loss of life and level of devastation becomes clear,” said Roland Fernandes, the top executive of Global Ministries and UMCOR.

2021 Back to School Fair – August 28th

This event will take place on Saturday, August 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. School supplies will be pre-packaged and distributed in a drive-through format which will begin at the high school stadium parking lot on West Fir St. Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic, backpack distribution, supply sack preparation, supply sack distribution, registration, “other” or “wherever needed.” You can choose time slots that work best for you. Several people from Trinity UMC have helped with this event in the past. If you would like to volunteer this year, you can register by going online to: https://forms.gle/8MGWRyAxbwtiPCah8 .

COVID Protocols/Exposure to COVID

We are in a Tier 4 Stage from the Conference; unfortunately, that means “Indoor Congregational Singing Under Option 2 TIER 4 – No live singing indoors. Soloists and ensemble groups may gather for the safe recording of music to support online or hybrid worship”. Please observe the social distancing protocols, mask up when inside the church and most importantly – if you feel or are aware of personal exposure – please contact Jim Stoffer 360.775.9356 or jamesstoffer@wavecable.com and the church office at 360-683-5367 or church@sequimtumc.org immediately. There are steps and processes that we will need to take and are necessary for the health and safety of TUMC, but also for our community of Sequim. Thank you and many blessings. I ask and pray for patience, grace, be kind with one another, and understanding that each of us is facing COVID through many lenses. For more information about current Covid requirements, visit the Trinity UMC website at sequimtumc.org.

Peace with Justice Sunday, June 27, 2021:

In Arizona border towns, communities facing social challenges are dramatically divided. In Liberian villages, citizens’ human rights are being violated. In local U.S. communities, women and girls are being bought and sold against their will. Moved by Christ’s love to pursue reconciliation and peace, honoring the dignity of every individual made in God’s image, the United Methodist Church is unwilling to turn a blind eye to injustice

Although individually we may lack the resources to effect change in a broken world, our giving is vital for the UMC to continue our global ministries of reconciliation. The Peace with Justice Sunday offering enables the United Methodist Church to make a difference together by sowing seeds—and yielding fruit!—of peace. You may donate by issuing a check to Trinity UMC, indicating Peace w/Justice in the memo section. If you would like more information, go to: https://www.resourceumc.org/en/content/pwjs-promo-card.

In Arizona border towns, communities facing social challenges are dramatically divided. In Liberian villages, citizens’ human rights are being violated. In local U.S. communities, women and girls are being bought and sold against their will. Moved by Christ’s love to pursue reconciliation and peace, honoring the dignity of every individual made in God’s image, the United Methodist Church is unwilling to turn a blind eye to injustice.

If you would like more information, go to:

The Missions Ministry Team has decided to focus donations for the May Noisy Can offering to support the needs of students in advanced math classes at Sequim High School. It is a bit early to be collecting funds for back-to-school “anything” in May, but we wish to have the funds on hand when they are needed. (The August 29 NCO will be just past the dates for school needs.) We continue to request donations in cash or checks – no coins. Please issue checks to TUMC and write “May NCO” in the memo section. If donating cash, please enclose funds in an envelope that is labeled “May NCO”. As always, any amounts are greatly appreciated!

TUMC Parish Nurse

The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC or Personnel Committee) met with Kathleen Charters to reaffirm her role at TUMC going forward. Summer Lunch Program for Children

Friends, the Boys & Girls Club will be restarting their summer lunch program for the children of our community starting in mid-June. TUMC has participated in this ministry outreach since 2012. The basic format is distributing meals that have been prepared at the B&G Club at four sites in the greater Sequim area. The need is for one volunteer for each site. The volunteer must have been fully vaccinated and loves working with children. There will be a B&G staff member on-site at each location to assist. TUMC’s typical commitment in the past is covering a couple of weeks throughout the summer; other faith groups and community service groups also cover weeks. A meeting will be announced to go over the specifics. Thank you to our church for being in ministry to our community and more importantly for our children. If interested, please contact Jim Stoffer at jamesstoffer@wavecable.com or 360.775.9356

If you are willing to help our church provide a safe environment for worship, please contact Dick Bennett at (360) 797-0093 or contact the church office.

Office Hours

Trinity United Methodist Church office hours are 9 am-2 pm Monday through Friday. However, due to limited access to the building during this phase of opening, we are keeping the doors locked. There is a doorbell to the right of the main door (by the office) that you need to ring to alert the office and you will be let in. It is best to call ahead so we are aware that you are coming. Thanks so much for your patience and remember when in the building to be sure and wear your mask!
