Circuit Rider

The Circuit Rider, the monthly newsletter of Sequim Trinity United Methodist Church, will be available again at the end of January. However, here is news about the website plus the Education Team has several offerings coming up.

Education News:

History of Christianity

Six 1-hour videodiscs prepared by Diamaid MacColloch on the “History of Christianity” will be presented at 1:00 to 2:30 PM in the TUMC sanctuary on the big screens. Steve Downer will moderate six sessions on February 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3 and 10.  
Jim Davis (360-461-0101) is managing the presentation. Topics include: 

  • The First Christianity; 
  • Catholicism: The Unpredictable Rise of Rome; 
  • Orthodoxy: From Empire to Empire; 
  • Reformation: The Individual Before God; 
  • Protestantism: The Evangelical Explosion; 
  • God in the Dock.

Relax and renew yourself in Christ!

This will be a small group study and practice based on the book:  “Right Here Right Now:  The Practice of Christian Mindfulness,” by Amy G. Oden.  

Begins 2/17/22 at noon on Zoom.  We meet for 6 weeks for 60 to 90 minutes depending on group needs.  A limited number of books will be available in the church office.  You may also retake this class.

Trinity U Starts on March 6!

Come and learn Methodism, whether you are new to the church, want a refresher or just love to discuss and hear about it! Topics include the Methodist “family tree,” John Wesley, hymns by Charles Wesley, and Methodist Polity. Radical Hospitality: What compels guests to return to a church is the warmth of our welcome and hospitality that goes beyond their expectations.  It both surprises and engages them. Learn this art form that infiltrates the heart and culture of the entire church.

Painting the Stars: Science and faith provide two great stories that impact and enlighten our spiritual journey.  In this course we examine the story of the universe, from the Big Bang to this very moment, and the sacred witness of scripture, through which inspired believers reveal the nature of God.  Meets 6 Sundays starting March 6, in person at 11:15 AM or by Zoom on Thursday afternoons.  To sign up or for questions, contact instructor Jackie Middaugh 360-681-2415, or zikkaron@aol.com.

Sunday In-Person Services

Sunday services in the church are at 10 am. Current COVID-19 Protocol: The following safety guidelines are still in effect: show your vaccination card (if not on file), wear masks; check-in when you arrive; practice social distancing and no congregational singing.

Online Recorded Services

The Sunday service is being recorded and available online the next day, Monday.

In Consideration of Others

As more people are becoming sensitive to fragrances, please avoid wearing perfumes and using scented lotions if attending in-person worship or meetings at TUMC. Thank you!

Altar Flowers Sign-up

January Noisy Can Offering

Katherine Parker is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She serves as a Health and Community Transformation Advisor with the United Mission to Nepal, an ecumenical ministry with the vision of a “fullness of life for all in a transformed Nepali society.” Katherine’s work is focused on Adolescent Empowerment, Maternal and Child Health, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. Continuing our tradition of supporting Katherine’s missionary work in Nepal, our Noisy Can offering will fulfill our Covenant Relationship commitment. Any funds received over the amount needed for our Covenant Relationship will be used to improve living conditions for the disabled Nepalese. (A copy of Katherine’s biography is posted on the display board in our Information Center.) Should you choose to make a donation, please issue your check to TUMC and indicate in the memo section January NCO. Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated!

Note: A Covenant Relationship with a missionary is more than financial support. It is a dynamic relationship where the church and missionary pray for one another and communicate regularly. – paraphrased from Resource UMC.

Let’s give Trinity some TLC!

Come on out to Trinity TLC where we do light maintenance around the church while sharing in fellowship. We meet every two weeks, and our next meeting is Fri., Jan. 21, 9:30 AM for a couple of hours. We will be doing maintenance and upkeep, jobs that need doing, and of course having a cup of coffee and light eats. All are welcome! For more info, call Andy Pitts at 804-724-3401.

Helping in times of disasters

We recently have seen devastating disasters in the news, some fairly local, some within our country, and often some in other countries. If you would like to help by sending funds, you can issue a check to TUMC, writing one of these Advance Numbers in the memo section:

Home Maintenance Funds Are Still Available

TUMC Missions Ministry has funds available to help folks with necessary home maintenance projects. Please let your friends and neighbors know that this is not just limited to the TUMC congregation. It is truly “neighbors helping neighbors.” This might include basic home repairs, yard cleanup, ramps, grab bars and other in-home needs. One household could receive one grant per year with a maximum of up to $500. Confidential requests will go through Lois’s Legacy. Contact Senior Ministries Office 360-683-4307 for further information.

Weekly Letter/Newsletter Update

Beginning at the end of this month we will be back to our once-a-month Circuit Rider (for February). For those who have newsletter articles for the Circuit Rider, please submit them to the church office by email by the 20th of the month.
