Shepherding at TUMC

Shepherding is a lay-pastoral program for a regular-basis contacting of those in our church family who because of health issues are unable to attend Sunday worship and who are more or less confined to their home or nursing home.
The current focus of the Shepherding Ministry is to have two teams of two persons each visiting our shut-ins weekly to show that their church cares about them and misses their presence. Typically, the visitation list includes about 20 of our parishioners who find it difficult to come to church on a regular basis yet want to maintain contact with their faith community. By delivering a copy of the current Sunday bulletin and spending a few minutes chatting, the Shepherding crew expresses the church’s loving concern for the well-being of our shut-ins. Communion is offered to homebound members and friends through the Shepherding team.

The time involved is usually one visit during the week selected, with the current rotation for volunteers being about once a month.. Those of us participating in the Shepherding ministry find the experience very rewarding; we have met and taken loving interest in very special folks who welcome us as friends who look forward to our return.
If you are interested in more information regarding this rich and rewarding ministry, you are invited to attend our monthly meeting. Please check the church calendar for current meeting times. Carolee Dunn and Linda Thibault are our co-coordinators.
